Freedom of Speech!”(自由中国!

A Lone Cry of Righteous Anger, Its Voice Echoing Across the World: China Democracy Party UK Headquarters Holds Solemn Protest Outside the Chinese Embassy in the UK Against the CCP Government’s Heavy Sentencing of Seven Party Members
[London] On 19 April 2026, heavy clouds hung low over Portland Place in London, and the sombre air seemed to foreshadow a direct confrontation between spirit and power. At exactly 11 a.m., party members of the China Democracy Party UK Headquarters, dressed in solemn attire, assembled in orderly ranks opposite the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom.
This gathering was no ordinary one. Its central focus was a recent political storm unfolding inside China: a strong protest against the CCP regime’s large-scale crackdown on party members of the Beijing branch of the China Democracy Party. The protesters held long banners in Chinese and English bearing slogans such as “Release Prisoners of Conscience” and “Democracy Is Not a Crime”, vowing to keep watch and speak out for their comrades behind bars.
A struggle of principle: the grief and resolve behind the background
The immediate trigger for this protest was the collective disappearance, imprisonment and sentencing of several core members of the Beijing Headquarters. As pioneers in the pursuit of constitutional democracy, party members of the Beijing Headquarters have struggled to survive within an extremely narrow political space. The recent arrests and persecution are not only a brutal trampling of citizens’ freedom of association, but also an open challenge to the moral conscience of humanity.
At the protest, Wang Yunpu, Chair of the Beijing Exile Branch of the China Democracy Party and Vice-Chair of the Preparatory Committee of the China Democracy Party European Headquarters, together with Huang Hua, head of the UK Headquarters, delivered impassioned speeches. They jointly stated: “Our comrades in Beijing, under the crushing pressure of authoritarian power, have embodied the democratic ideal with their own flesh and blood. They were arrested because they spoke the truth; they are suffering because they carry the hope of the nation. We, living here in free Britain, must not allow these brave souls to stand alone and unsupported in the darkness.”
Resonance on the street: passers-by take up the call, as the voice of justice crosses borders
As the political and commercial heart of London, Portland Place sees a constant flow of passers-by. Through distributing leaflets and displaying documentary photographs, party members explained to local residents and visitors alike the precarious situation faced by political dissidents in China.
During this process, an especially moving moment unfolded. Two London residents stopped as they passed the protest line. One of them, a woman, at first looked puzzled. But after reading the leaflet in her hand and listening to a party member explain in fluent English the details of the suffering in Beijing, her expression changed from shock to indignation. She waved away her companion’s attempt to hurry her on, walked resolutely into the middle of the protest crowd, and asked the organisers if she could speak.
The moment she took the microphone, a brief silence fell over the scene. Then this ordinary citizen, far from home yet speaking out for others, lifted her strong and resonant voice and, facing the grand yet cold embassy gates not far away, led the crowd in the most thunderous of chants: “Free China! Freedom of Speech!”
The party members on site were deeply encouraged and responded in unison. Their chants echoed between the surrounding buildings, gathering into a wave of overwhelming force. In that moment, all barriers of nationality and culture disappeared. The shared resonance of universal values caused the power of justice to linger in the air above Portland Place.
Different roads, one destination: party members in Manchester mobilise on the same day, forging a wall of resistance from north and south
