831 London Gathering Commemorates the 4th Anniversary of 831

London Gathering Commemorates the 4th Anniversary of 831

On the 4th anniversary of the August 31st Incident (831), a gathering was held in Piccadilly Circus in the heart of London under the theme “Never Forget 831 Prince Station Alarm Rally and Memorial” to protest against the excessive use of violence by the Hong Kong police and to commemorate the events of August 31st. Various groups, including the UK Headquarters of China Democracy Party, participated in the event in solidarity with the people of Hong Kong.

The event was organized by “英伦好邻舍教会” (Good Neighbors Church in the UK), and participants observed a one-minute silence in memory of the 831 incident. Benedict Rogers, the founder of the UK human rights organization Hong Kong Watch, delivered a speech, emphasizing the importance of continuing to seek the truth and holding the Hong Kong government and police accountable. On August 31, 2019, a confrontation occurred between protesters and passengers at a subway station, after which riot police and members of the Hong Kong Police’s Special Tactical Squad (STT) rushed into Prince Edward MTR station and indiscriminately attacked citizens with batons, pepper spray, and other weapons on the platform and inside the train. Subsequently, the police sealed off all entrances and exits of the station, preventing media reporters from conducting interviews and even obstructing paramedics from providing assistance to the injured.

Members of the UK Headquarters of China Democracy Party who participated in the event expressed their views, stating that Hong Kong has turned into a city dominated by the police. This is the result of the Chinese Communist Party extending its authoritarian rule from the mainland to Hong Kong, causing the former “Pearl of the Orient” to deteriorate significantly. Especially after the implementation of the Hong Kong national security law, there is no longer any freedom left in Hong Kong. Their support for the Hong Kong people’s struggle is also about fighting for their own freedom and human rights. Overseas Chinese, as they enjoy freedom, should stand up bravely to resist.

Members who participated in the event included Jiang Yushan, Liao Liuyan, Yu Gang, Gu Xiaofeng, Zhang Weisheng, Chen Liangshi, Zhao Qiang, Chen Bin, and others.
