China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch Holds Vehicle Parade and Memorial Gathering to Mark the 37th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre

China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch Holds Vehicle Parade and Memorial Gathering to Mark the 37th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre

Auckland, New Zealand – June 4, 2026

On June 4, 2026, the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch organized a vehicle parade across the Auckland region and held a memorial gathering outside the Chinese Consulate-General in Auckland to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre. The event paid tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of freedom, democracy, human rights, and justice.

As New Zealand is among the first countries in the world to enter June 4 each year, the commemoration organized by the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch was one of the earliest June 4 memorial events held worldwide, once again sending a clear message that history must never be forgotten and truth must never be erased.

During the event, multiple vehicles displaying China Democracy Party flags and banners promoting freedom and democracy travelled throughout Auckland, bringing public attention to the importance of remembering June 4 and opposing authoritarianism. The vehicle parade and on-site activities were coordinated and directed by Mr. Qiang Jiangpeng, Chief Coordinator of the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch.

At the memorial gathering outside the Chinese Consulate-General, Mr. Fei Feng, Head of the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch, delivered an important speech. He stated that thirty-seven years ago, the Chinese Communist regime used military force against peaceful students and citizens who were calling for democracy and reform, resulting in the deaths of countless innocent people. He emphasized that the Tiananmen Massacre remains not only a tragedy for the Chinese people but also a significant chapter in humanity’s ongoing struggle for freedom and democracy.

Mr. Feng further noted that commemorating June 4 is not only about honoring those who lost their lives but also about reminding the world that no authoritarian regime should ever stand above the fundamental rights and freedoms of its people. He called on the international community to continue paying close attention to the human rights situation in China and to support the Chinese people’s pursuit of democracy, freedom, the rule of law, and human rights.

Meanwhile, a parallel memorial event was held in Christchurch on New Zealand’s South Island. Mr. Jonathan, Action Committee Member of the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch in Christchurch, organized a candlelight vigil at the city center square at 8:00 p.m. local time. Candles were lit in memory of the students, citizens, and democracy activists who were killed during the Tiananmen Massacre. The display featured the words “Never Forget June 4,” attracting the attention of local residents and visitors. Mr. Jonathan stated that regardless of where people live, the truth about June 4 must never be forgotten, and that remembering the victims is an important way of defending the universal values of freedom, democracy, and human rights.

The China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch also expressed its highest respect and gratitude to China Democracy Party members and democracy advocates around the world. Their unwavering efforts over the decades to preserve historical truth, honor the victims of June 4, and promote democratic change in China have kept the flame of freedom alive and inspired future generations in the pursuit of liberty.

Participants observed a moment of silence for the victims and chanted slogans including “Never Forget June 4,” “Long Live Freedom and Democracy,” and “End One-Party Rule,” expressing their hope and determination for a democratic future for China.

The China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch reiterates its commitment to the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. It will continue working alongside democratic forces around the world to advance the cause of democratization in China until the Chinese people can fully enjoy freedom, dignity, and fundamental human rights.
