China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch Joins the Auckland Tibetan Association and New Zealand Volunteers Platform Democracy Activists in Condemning the CCP’s 1 July Party Founding Day and Strongly Denouncing the “Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress”
From 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on 1 July 2026, the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch, together with the Auckland Tibetan Association and democracy activists from the New Zealand Volunteers Platform, held a public protest in Auckland to jointly condemn the Chinese Communist Party’s so-called “1 July Party Founding Day” and to strongly denounce the CCP’s recently promulgated “Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress”.
The China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch believes that 1 July is not a day worthy of celebration, but a day on which the Chinese people, all ethnic communities, and all those concerned with China’s future should engage in deep reflection. Since its founding, the Chinese Communist Party has long placed Party power above state power, replaced the rule of law with dictatorship, covered up the truth with propaganda, and suppressed the people through fear. Its so-called “ethnic unity” is not founded on freedom, equality, respect and autonomy, but serves as a political instrument for maintaining one-party dictatorship.
At the protest, party members and fellow democracy activists displayed placards bearing slogans such as “CCP≠CHINA” and “END CCP”, clearly expressing the political position that “the CCP does not equal China”, “oppose CCP tyranny”, and “end one-party dictatorship”. Participants pointed out that China is a civilisational community shaped by history, culture and its people, whereas the Chinese Communist Party is merely an authoritarian political party monopolising state power. The CCP has no right to equate itself with China, nor does it have the right to represent all Chinese people or the Chinese nation.
With regard to the CCP’s recently promulgated “Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress”, the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch expresses its strongest condemnation. We believe that, on the surface, this law is presented under the banners of “ethnic unity” and “community consciousness”, but in substance it is a further institutional tool for intensifying ideological control, cultural assimilation, religious repression and political coercion. It dresses up the CCP’s ideology as law and attempts, through the coercive power of the state, to erase the historical memory, religious beliefs, languages, cultures and dignity of identity of all ethnic groups.
The China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch firmly supports the rights of Tibetans, Uyghurs, Mongols, and all ethnic groups within China to enjoy freedom of belief, the right to preserve their language and culture, personal dignity and fundamental human rights in accordance with the law. We oppose any policy which, in the name of “stability”, “unity” or “anti-separatism”, subjects ethnic minorities to surveillance, indoctrination, assimilation and repression. Genuine ethnic unity must be built upon free choice, equal respect, institutional guarantees and the protection of human rights, not upon fear, surveillance, forced declarations of loyalty and political submission.
Fei Feng, Chairman of the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch, delivered an important speech at the event. He stated: “We stand here today not in opposition to China, but in opposition to the Chinese Communist Party, which has hijacked China, oppressed the people, and damaged civilisation. We firmly oppose the CCP’s one-party dictatorship, oppose CCP tyranny, and support the Chinese people, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Mongols and all oppressed communities in their pursuit of freedom, dignity and human rights. We call for an end to CCP one-party dictatorship, the overthrow of CCP tyranny, and the rebuilding of a truly democratic China that belongs to the people.”
Chairman Fei Feng emphasised that China’s future lies not in the continued maintenance of one-party dictatorship, nor in sustaining the regime through lies and fear, but in democratic constitutional government, judicial independence, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, ethnic equality and the protection of civil rights. Only by establishing a genuinely democratic system subject to public oversight can China break out of the cycle of authoritarianism and achieve freedom, dignity, peace and lasting stability.
The on-site command of this event was handled by Jiangpeng Qiang, a member of the China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch. Throughout the event, order was well maintained, and participants expressed their political demands in a peaceful, rational and non-violent manner, demonstrating the maturity, civic responsibility and firm resolve of overseas democratic forces.
The China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch expresses its gratitude to the Auckland Tibetan Association, democracy activists from the New Zealand Volunteers Platform, and all friends concerned with democracy in China, human rights and ethnic freedom for their joint participation and support. This joint action demonstrates that overseas democracy activists, the Tibetan community and democratic individuals from various ethnic backgrounds are forging broader and firmer cooperation on the path of opposing CCP authoritarianism, defending freedom and human rights, and pursuing a democratic China.
The China Democracy Party New Zealand Branch will continue to uphold the principles of peace, rationality and non-violence, unite democratic forces overseas, persist in exposing the true nature of CCP tyranny, oppose transnational repression and political infiltration, and support the Chinese people and all ethnic communities in their struggle for freedom, human rights and democratic institutions.
We believe that the CCP does not equal China, and the Party-state does not equal the motherland. The Chinese people will ultimately cast off one-party dictatorship and usher in a new China of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and human rights.
